Developed in Russia since the 1940s and recognized as a breed in 2002, the Russian Spaniel combines the best traits of a gun dog with the smaller size and temperament of a devoted family companion.

Russian Spaniels have all the field qualities necessary for a gun dog - stamina, great sense of smell, energy, persistence and an inborn willingness to retrieve. They are physically-equipped for the hunt of marsh, field, woodland, desert, and waterfowl as well as rabbits and other small game. Naturally cold-hardy, they adapt well to heat and do not have to be clipped every summer.

Snezka

Snezka is a fine example of the classic Russian Spaniel that originated in her native Russia in the 1940s.

Yuzhno

Yuzhno's beautifully speckled liver and white coat is all-weather and low maintenance.

For those who need more of a family companion, the Russian Spaniel is a great fit. Devoted to their families, they are gentle with children and get along with other dogs, regardless of the breed.

Russian Spaniels weigh between 28 to 35 pounds and are generally no taller than 15" to 18" which makes them a good choice for apartment dwellers or those with small yards. In addition, their coat repels water and requires very little grooming. Occasional baths and brushing will keep a Russian Spaniel's coat clean and glossy.

In a region that is flooded with Labradors, Dalmatians, Boxers, Dachshunds, Pekinese, Chihuahuas and Lhasa Apsos, a Russian Spaniel is truly a breed apart.
